Our unique ability to provide such a wide range of options is possible due to the FDA approval of Allergan's INAMED^® Silicone-Filled Breast Implants. The approval is based on preclinical testing, a European rupture prevalence study and four years of data for 715 women from Allergan’s Core Clinical Study. In addition, numerous published peer-reviewed studies and research demonstrates that silicone and silicone gel-filled breast implants are safe.

Safety of INAMED® Silicone-Filled Breast Implants
Silicone safety is supported by substantial research and worldwide experience.

In 1992, the FDA called for a voluntary moratorium (delay) on the use of silicone gel-filled breast implants until new safety information could be thoroughly reviewed by the FDA's advisory panel. That same year, the FDA lifted this moratorium and announced its decision to allow access to silicone gel-filled breast implants for reconstruction patients under controlled clinical studies, called Adjunct Studies. In 1999, the FDA allowed the use of silicone gel-filled breast implants in Allergan's Core Clinical Study to assess the safety and effectiveness of these devices.

The safety and effectiveness of INAMED^® Silicone-Filled Breast Implants for breast augmentation is supported by extensive preclinical testing, U.S. clinical studies, a European rupture prevalence study, peer-reviewed literature and 25 years of real-world experience in more than 60 countries. In addition, numerous published peer-reviewed studies and research demonstrates that silicone and silicone gel-filled breast implants are safe. It is important to note that the unique qualities of today's silicone gel-filled breast implants help make it the filler of choice for patients in countries where both saline-filled and silicone gel-filled breast implants are widely available.

Silicone is a natural part of everyday life.
Silicones are a family of synthetic materials formed primarily from the elements silicon and oxygen. "Silicon" is a naturally occurring element, more abundant in nature than any other element except oxygen. Silicones can vary in consistency from liquid to gel to rubber and have been part of the consumer industry for over 50 years. They appear in a wide variety of products that you may use everyday, like many deodorants, shampoos, lipsticks, laundry detergents and fabric softeners. Many medical devices also utilize silicone, including artificial joints, facial implants and needles used for injections.

Are you a good candidate for silicone gel-filled breast implants?
As a good breast implant candidate, you should display three specific characteristics:

• A desire to educate yourself regarding the specific shape, size and style of breast implant that is best for you.
• An internal motivation to do this for yourself, as opposed to doing it for a loved one or other outside influences.
• Most importantly, a set of realistic expectations about the outcome of your surgery.
